I can’t name every horror film like I have mentioned before, but I just enjoy them very much. I have felt horror movies burn out in the last couple of years, mainly because I was so tired of the content. I could predict where the story was going during most horror films. I think the beginning of horror films is great, but the writer doesn’t know how to end it. The end always sucks. We can debate this some other time, but my review today is about the Evil Dead Rise film. I did love the 2013 Evil Dead. I think I need to rewatch it, but it wasn’t memorable. The original Evil Dead films are classics and have a different feel to them. I think they are great and lots of fun. I will say they are uber-graphic, and I am not a fan of possessions, but I will watch this franchise. The original Evil Dead films are some of the best movies ever made, in my humble opinion, but who am I lol. I enjoyed Ash VS The Evil Dead too. It was fun and all over the place. I was sad when it got canceled.

As for the new film Evil Dead Rises, I went into watching this film not knowing what to expect. I can’t even remember if I watched the trailer or not, to be honest. I think I did, but I can’t remember. From the poster of the film, I thought it looked goofy. I also thought it would be about a mom from all the advertising, which I didn’t love.

So, the film opens up with a flash forward of a possessed girl killing her friends at a lake. It was gruesome, as expected. Then it cuts to a single mom living with her three kids in a run-down apartment building. They lived on one of the top floors of the super-tall apartment complex. That already gave me anxiety. It had underground parking, which also scares me. High-rise apartment buildings and underground parking lots make me feel trapped. If there is an emergency, I would die because I would have no way out. If I had to choose one to be stuck in, it would be the apartment building; at least I could jump out. Then there was the eerie elevator. I hate elevators. As you might have connected the dots, I hate confined places. There was also an earthquake as the kids were coming out of the underground parking, which is also one of my fears! The rest of the film revolves around the family and their poor neighbors on the same floor. The casting was spot on in terms of the mom. She was scary even before she was a deadite. There was something sinister in her eyes.

So I don’t like to give too much away in my reviews, but I will say this….WATCH THIS FILM. I really enjoyed it. It was scary and fun. I was completely tuned in the whole time and want to watch it again. It was refreshing and actually scary! I loved the setting and the circumstances of the entire situation. It was a significant change for the franchise. I did question why the Necronomicon was in a big city in Los Angeles in an apartment building that was once a bank. One theory was that there are three Necronomicon; this was the third one. I really enjoyed the cinematography too. Some cool scary shots!

I give this fill 10/10; if you know me, that is saying a lot. I can’t wait to watch it again!

Cheers,
